He last played for Docklands in the semi final of the cup back in March and is looking forward to returning to a competitive situation. Vincett completes New York marathon

07/11/06 - Andy Vincett completed the New York marathon at the weekend in a time of 3 hours and 34 minutes. Afterwards he said, "Sunday was an absolute highlight of my life." Asked whether he would do it again, he admitted, "Well, immediately afterwards I thought ‘no chance’ but, now the pain’s subsided a little, I'm not sure. It wasn’t long after finishing that I was thinking it would be really nice to go under 3h30 so we’ll see."

He was cheered on by sister Karen and brother-in-law Alexis Blair. Andy raised a massive total of $3,172 (about £1,700) which is nearly $700 over his goal.

Groy to leave Docklands shock

20/10/06 - Docklands legend Ned Groy shocked his team mates last night when he announced his intentions to leave the club. He said, "It is a bit of a sad situation for me to leave, however various circumstances and time are dictating certain situations and decisions to be made. I feel it's time to let some of the younger guys have a go. I feel sorry to go but the time is right. I will still come to the occasional training session to check how the guys are doing and I will come to the games to help out and would remain in spirit, if not in body, a part of London Docklands VC."

After over 12 years with the club and 208 appearances Ned will be sorely missed - and that's not just his expertise in putting the net up.

The holder of Docklands' all-time appearance record is transferring to Brentwood Estonians who play in Division 2 of the National League. As fate will have it Docklands have been drawn to face Brentwood in the 3rd round of the cup, assuming both teams get through round 2.

Everyone at the club wishes Ned all the best and will never forget his spirit and powerful hits.

2007 London Challenge Trophy cancelled

17/10/06 - Docklands are set to remain the London Challenge Trophy champions for a little bit longer as this season's competition has been cancelled.

A statement from Charlie Orton, Chairman of the London Volleyball Association, read:

"At last night's meeting of the London Executive, it was decided to cancel the London Challenge for next season. Only London Docklands of the National League Division 1 teams in London, were interested in the League Section of the Challenge. However, it was that which was the core of the event providing extra high quality games for teams. Hence it was considered not worthwhile to continue forward. Further investigations for a future competition in 2008 will be considered when the future of National Competitions are clear following the appointment of British Coaches and Manager."

The ceremony and reception took place in Boris and Gergana's home town Plovdiv in Bulgaria. A number of the club attended the joyous occasion along with some of Boris' ULU team mates and partners.

Bozza did not stop all day. After breaking into his future In Laws' flat, he kidnapped Gergana to take her to the church. Then with his new wife he danced the night away without enjoying any of the wedding breakfast.

Then, with the help of Martin Blake and a few other guests, he demonstrated one of Docklands' new ladder exercises. Click here for an exclusive view of the new exercise.

Vincett to tackle New York Marathon

19/07/06 - After Martin Blake climbed Kilimanjaro and a small Docklands team completed the Sport Relief Mile, Andy Vincett had to go and trump them all by entering the New York marathon. He takes on the challenge on 5th November and is already working hard in training.

He is running for Team Continuum. Andy explains, "They are an advocate for patient care and services. They are not about research, but rather about helping cancer patients cope with their most immediate needs. Team Continuum donates more than 97% of the funds it collects and, currently, they are donating to seven of New York’s hospitals specifically to help cancer patients and their families that suffer hardships as a result of the disease."

Pool A: Docklands, White Eagles, Warwick Riga, Ham, Newcastle Staffs.

He said, "It was an amazing trip. The final day's trek was probably the toughest thing I have ever done and I am extremely proud to have made it to the top."

They will both now return to the UK to join the England squad to prepare for the Spring Cup in Estonia at the start of next month.

Meanwhile, in Sweden Danny Weemes' team Hylte produced a strong away victory to win their play-off semi final series 3-1 - Weemes ended the semi finals as top scorer. They will now play Falkenberg in the final five match series as they try to defend the title they won last year.

Porter and Masters reach second final

23/03/06 - Last weekend both Alex Porter and Neil Masters coached the Tendring U18 men's team who won all their pool matches:

Plymstock 2-0 (25-21, 25-23)
Redhill Stourbridge 2-0 (25-20, 25-13)
Siddal Moor 2-1 (21-25, 25-16, 15-13)

Tendring played their arch rivals Wessex in the semi final. Wessex expected to get through to the finals, as previously they had held the upper hand against Tendring, beating them in the majority of their meetings over the past nine years. This year was different. Tendring cruised to a 2-0 (25-11, 25-14) win against Wessex setting up a final between Tendring and Siddal Moor. If it goes anything like the pool match, it's going to be thriller with Tendring coming out on top.

Alex Porter Neil Masters

The Tendring team have benefited from the experience of Porter and Masters over the past few months and played a very tactical and technical game at the weekend. Tendring have been playing at the top of the junior competitions since 1995 when Porter starred in their victorious U15 national cup team. More coaching success for Primus

19/03/06 - After two Coach of the Year awards, Danny Primus' coaching career continues to go from strength to strength. His latest success is with Swiss Cottage with whom he has achieved promotion to women's National League Division 2 in his first year of coaching the side in the NVL. Promotion was confirmed today when they beat second placed South Hants 3-1 in the Division 3 South clash. This all came after making three super-sub appearances against Warwick Riga on Saturday when he made eleven serves and ended the match as Docklands' best server. Well done Danny!

As a footnote to the previous news item, the first match in the play-off series ended 3-0 to Hylte. Sliti was Örkelljunga's top scorer while Weemes was limited to only two brief appearances on court.

Nils was attending University in London as part of the Erasmus exchange programme and is returning to Germany where he'll play for his club Team48 Hildesheim in the 2nd Bundesliga (North). He hopes to return to London in the future when he is sure to become a Docklands star.
