London Docklands Volleyball suffered a shock defeat to lower league opposition for the second consecutive year on Sunday and will play no further part in the cup.

A depleted side shorn of key players, travelled up to Sheffield to take on the club's second team that was full of impressive young players at various stages within the England set up.

Full of energy and eager to prove a point, the Sheffield II side came back from a fairly routine first set loss (18-25) to take the following three tightly contested sets and a famous victory.

Due to illness, injury and scheduling conflicts, manager Andy Hopper was only able to put a list of six names down on his team sheet, with a number forced to play out of position.

Captain Andrew Pink was impressed by the young Sheffield side, but was disappointed in Docklands' performance, he said, "We may have only turned up with six players but that performance just wasn't to the standard we expect of ourselves. All of us need to have a good long look in the mirror before Super8 action starts again.

"However, that's not to take anything away from Sheffield II. They recovered well from a timid start and really grew into the game. They were deserved winners in the end. I saw a number of talented young players on the other side of the net and I'll be following their careers with interest in the years to come."

Docklands open their home league campaign next Saturday against Solent in London with three precious points on offer.
